Announcing New Communications Director and Welcoming New Camp Capers Staff Members

The Episcopal Diocese of West Texas is pleased to announce Laura K. McGrew as the new Director for Communications. Laura joined the diocesan staff in July 2014 and has served since 2019 as the Communications Manager. As Director for Communications, she will plan, create, manage, and direct diocesan communications that express the values and vision of the Diocese and its ministries, in collaboration with the Rt. Rev. David Reed, diocesan staff members, and ministry leaders.

Laura shares, "Over the years I have learned that the work of the diocesan Communications Office is not all about meeting deadlines, encouraging online registration, or creating professional, beautiful publications – although these are among our primary goals. Working at the Diocese is about reaching beyond ourselves to serve all people, in our churches, our communities and throughout the world, and it is a privilege to continue supporting this mission."

The Diocese continues to identify the best candidate for the Graphics and Social Media Manager position. This role will be responsible for promoting the diocesan mission, strategy, and planned media communication through Social Media Management, graphic design, and production of visual assets. Direction for work, priorities, and deadlines will be provided by Bishop Reed and the Director for Communications. A full job description is available online, at dwtx.org/jobs.

Congregations and individuals may contact the diocesan Communications Office, at communications@dwtx.org, to submit a church event, job listing, announcement, or local news feature to the Communications Office for publication in the Weekly E-News, or submit it online, at dwtx.org/forms.

In addition to this staff transition at the Bishop Jones Center, the Diocese is pleased to announce the hiring of two year-round positions at Camp Capers.

Kynleigh Etter joins the Camp Capers staff as Assistant Food Service Director. In this full-time role, she will assist with the coordination, delivery, and clean-up of Camp Capers' food-service operations in close collaboration with Ryan Ryland, Camp Capers Food Service Director.

Sarah Carlson joins the Camp Capers staff as the new Outreach and Leadership Development Coordinator. In this role, which is part-time during the non-summer months, she will work with the Program Director to create and implement a leadership development program for the current summer camp program as well as manage relationships with youth and young adult partners throughout the Diocese.
