Regarding Transitions: Three Diocesan Staff Changes
During diocesan Council 2020, the Rt. Rev. David Reed announced the retirement of Santos Nagao at the end of April. Bishop Reed thanked him, and his wife Raquel, on behalf of the diocese for his many years of service as the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor. Santos joined the diocesan staff in 1996, during the Rt. Rev. Jim Folts' tenure.
Bishop Reed shares, "Santos has been with the diocese twenty-four years, and for most of those years he and his wife have lived in the house on the premises of the Bishop Jones Center. He has served this diocese well and faithfully for a long, long time. I am thankful for all of their faithful service."
About his time working with the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas, Santos shares, "Thank you so much for all of your friendship and hospitality. I don’t have words to express my gratitude to the diocese, the churches of the diocese and all the clergy. God bless you, and we love you."
The Diocese is pleased to announce that Nino Gomez, who joined the diocesan staff as Facilities Assistant in 2016, will assume the role of Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor, effective May 1, 2020. Nino may be reached at nino.gomez@dwtx.org, or by calling the diocesan office, (888/210) 824-5387.
In addition to this staff transition at the Bishop Jones Center, the Diocese is pleased to announce Flor Saldivar as the Coordinator of Immigration and Refugee Ministries, a consultant position funded by a grant from Episcopal Relief & Development. Based in McAllen, Texas, Flor will work closely with the bishop, diocesan staff, diocesan clergy, and congregations within the Valley Convocation, as well as the entire diocese, in order to coordinate, implement, and facilitate sustainable initiatives that support immigrants and refugees in our communities.
Flor joins the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas with a background in Communications and Marketing, with special interests in working with non-profit organizations. She shares, "I am grateful to the diocese for trusting me to lead this crucial initiative. I hope to assist the growth of this ministry within our congregations as we seek to love our neighbors in our communities. I invite all clergy and congregants to reach out to me for more information on how you or your parish can get involved in these new and continuing initiatives."
