St. Nicholas, Bulverde Becomes a Mission
The Rev. Mike Besson, Archdeacon of the Diocese of West Texas, introduced the Rev. Beth Wyndham and members of St. Nicholas as they processed to the stage, accompanied by a video that documented the milestones of the past five years leading up the church becoming a mission. Archdeacon Besson then moved for the Church Plant to be accepted as a Mission Church and the Council Delegation then approved resoundingly. The Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read, Bishop of West Texas, then appointed those named as members of the first Bishop’s Committee of St. Nicholas Hill Country and Rev. Beth Wyndham as Vicar.
In November 2018, the Rev. Beth and Jeremy Wyndham were called by the diocese to plant a new church in one of the growing areas of San Antonio. After performing demographic research in early 2019, they decided to plant in the Far North San Antonio/Bulverde/Spring Branch area. The first service of St. Nicholas Hill Country Episcopal Church was held on December 8, 2019.
St. Nicholas is an example how the Wyndhams were guided by the Holy Spirit and through faith, discernment, determination, hard work, and diocesan and community support have successfully planted a church and built into a thriving congregation.
Congratulations to St. Nicholas on becoming a mission in the Diocese of West Texas!

St. Andrew’s, Corpus Christi Transitions to Parish Status
During Council, the Rev. Gerald Phelps and members of St. Andrew’s proceeded to the stage, where photos from services and events at St. Andrew’s were displayed. Archdeacon Besson announced St. Andrew’s status as the newest parish in the diocese. Bishop Read affirmed that St. Andrew’s has called the Rev. Phelps as their Rector/Priest-in-Charge.
St. Andrew’s history dates all the way back to 1925 in Robstown. “Unnamed and unorganized”, according to diocesan records. In May of 1949, St. Andrew’s became a mission, and in 1982 a decision was made to move the church from Robstown to the Calallen area. Land was purchased and a building was erected. The present facility was dedicated and consecrated on November 7, 1984.
Through the years, St. Andrew’s has embraced their mission statement, “To walk in faith and love as we develop in Christ, proclaiming God’s good news to all the people and caring for their needs.”
41 years in Calallen, 76 years a mission, and 100 years a church plant.
Congratulations to St. Andrew’s on becoming a parish in the Diocese of West Texas!
