19th Annual Bishop’s Golf Classic Raises $60,000 for Camp Scholarships
It was a beautiful, crisp day on Friday, November 15 when golfers, sponsors, and diocesan staff gathered for the 19th Annual Bishop’s Golf Classic held at Canyon Springs Golf Club in San Antonio. The event, hosted by the Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read, D.D., Bishop of West Texas, raises funds for camp scholarships. In 2024, close to 500 scholarships were awarded for campers at the three diocesan camps: Camp Capers in the Hill Country, Duncan Park in Colorado, and Mustang Island in Port Aransas. The tournament offers a time for fun and fellowship, with golfers represented from across our diocesan communities. Three diocesan Bishops were present at the event - Bishop Read, the Rt. Rev. Gary R. Lillibridge, D.D., 9th Bishop of West Texas and the Rt. Rev. David M. Reed, D.D., 10th Bishop of West Texas.
The scholarships will aid families from across the diocese, as well as children from the Good Samaritan Community Services, St. Jude Ranch for abused and neglected children, the Magdalena House, Transformation House, Wounded Warriors and Veterans.
Funds were raised through golf participation, sponsorships, raffle tickets, and tournament games such as “Beat the Bishop” and Camp Toss. A silent auction was held with many coveted items raising additional funds for the tournament.
